Abstract:
This systematic literature review examines the latest findings on destructive leadership within the healthcare sector, focusing on its impact on employee well-being, organizational effectiveness and patient care outcomes. Using databases such as PubMed, PsycINFO and Scopus, peer-reviewed stud¬ies published in the past five years were analysed to ensure the inclusion of current research. The review prioritises studies with rigorous methodologies, including longitudinal designs and meta-analyses, to provide robust insights.
The findings reveal that destructive leadership, including toxic leadership and abusive supervision, significantly contributes to burnout, emotional exhaustion and reduced job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. Additionally, such leadership behaviours negatively affect organizational performance and patient care quality. Contextual factors, such as the high-stress environment of healthcare settings, were identified as catalysts for destructive behaviours, underscoring the role of organizational culture and leadership training in mit¬igating these effects
