Abstract:
As commercial space tourism is growing in popularity, the demand for commercial destinations in space is also rising. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to examine this new area of commercial space habitats in low Earth orbit by investigating the development of commercial space stations as a key factor for the shift from governmental-owned space stations to commercial contractors. This development is investigated by analyzing literature about the past six decades of human space flight as well as specialized literature for commercial space tourism. Together, these methods have been used to investigate two formulated hypotheses regarding commercialization and its impact on low Earth orbit space habitats
