Abstract:

This study examines the impact of rural tourism on economic development in small Albanian communities, identifying key success factors and challenges. Unlike mass tourism, which often leads to environmental and cultural degradation, rural tourism offers a sustainable alternative that revitalizes local economies while preserving heritage. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing questionnaires and interviews with stakeholders such as residents and local authorities. Both quantitative and qualitative data will be analysed through descriptive and correlational methods to measure tourism’s effects on income and employment. The findings are expected to demonstrate the significant contributions of rural tourism to job creation and economic growth while highlighting challenges such as infrastructure limitations, marketing deficiencies, and the need for community engagement. The study proposes strategic recommendations, including infrastructure investments, marketing initiatives, and educational programs, to promote sustainable rural tourism and preserve Albania’s cultural identity through collaborative efforts
