Abstract:
Water has remained, throughout the centuries, the essential element for human life and all living beings. Its availability and quality are crucial for maintaining our standard of living. This precious resource has garnered significant attention from the public, particularly in the agricultural sector, which consumes approximately 80% of Morocco's total water resources. The current challenging situation has prompted the adoption of various agricultural systems aimed at preserving our ecosystem. These include permaculture, resilient agriculture, conservation agriculture, agroecology, agroforestry, organic farming, and sustainable agriculture, which can be seen as an evolution of the former practices. We must take decisive action to rectify this situation, ensuring resilient productivity while prioritizing water conservation, which continues to face a concerning and progressive deficit.
The current green revolution is nearly unavoidable; we must embrace it and seek new technologies to protect our environment. Our goal is to secure human health and manage vital water resources, both drinking and irrigation, efficiently and rationally according to specific needs.
In this context, a series of integrated technologies is proposed, including Drip irrigation, Digitalization, Nanotechnology, Polyter/Hydro-retainers, and CT-WAS (or EQCCT). Experience has demonstrated that these advanced irrigation techniques can reduce total water usage by 50% to 80%. Furthermore, they enhance water efficiency while improving the quality and productivity of agricultural products.
The issue of water should not become a political battleground; it requires an objective and scientific approach. We must highlight the constraints, challenges, and legitimate alternatives to address the crises of water shortage, scarcity, and drought with minimal harm.
