Abstract
Unfair trading practices between economic operators are a conseยญquence of the concentration and vertical integration of retailers of fast-movยญing consumer goods. The strengthened market position of the latter allowed them to impose unfavorable conditions on their economically weaker partยญners in the supply chain โ such as manufacturers and small suppliers. The cross-border nature of trade in agricultural goods and foods has brought this issue to the attention of the European institutions relatively quickly.
On 25 April 2019, Directive (EU) 2019/633 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on unfair trading practices in business-to-busiยญness relationships in the agricultural and food supply chain was published in the Official Journal of the EU. This paper analyses the norms and implemenยญtation of the Directive as of 31 July 2021.
